Be aware of Kenya and not just the mountain, Salat tells DP Gachagua

Former Kane Secretary General Nick Salat has asked Vice President Rigathi Gachagua to care about Kenya as a whole and not Mount Kenya alone.

Salat said successive leaders in the region have empowered them and now it is time for other regions to also enjoy the national cake just like them.

“The DP should be aware of what Kenya is and not its region because the people of what is called Mount Kenya have residences in all corners of this country, thanks to founding President Jomo Kenyatta. And these are people who should live with other Kenyans and not be separated,” Salat said.

He spoke to the Star on the phone.

The former Bomet MP added that the PD should stop “isolating” its people by trying to use the mountain to promote itself and pursue its own interests.

“As leaders, we must put an end to this notion of ‘protecting’ your people and sidelining the rest of Kenyans, which is completely wrong. This country belongs to everyone,” he said.

While commending President William Ruto for his tireless efforts to unite all Kenyans, Salat said these leaders should stop behaving as if they were the only “special people” in this one country.

“The people of this country belong to all people and no community should be superior to another. We are equal and one,” he remarked.

The former Kanu general secretary wondered why these leaders were trying to “isolate” Mount Kenya residents from other Kenyans who not only reside in the mountain, but have residences in other areas.

“It is totally ironic that these leaders claim to be promoting the people’s agenda, but on the other hand, they want the support of other Kenyans from the Mount Kenya region,” Salat said.

The former lawmaker said these leaders know very well that the stability of this country is the stability of their well-being across the country.

“Such divisive politics should not be tolerated in today’s society because our unity is key as a nation. The people of the hill country should not allow leaders to use them by isolating them with the rest of Kenyans, but rather join them and build a great country under the leadership of President Ruto,” he said.

These sentiments come at a time when some deputies and senators have promised to file impeachment proceedings against Gachagua in what they called “undermining the government.”

Leaders have pledged to remove the vice president from office and already more than 200 lawmakers have signed impeachment proceedings against the vice president.
