Colorado Task Force in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene

DENVER — A Colorado task force is on the ground in Florida supporting rescue efforts on the storm-ravaged Clearwater Peninsula following Hurricane Helene.

Colorado Task Force 1 is assisting Pinellas County residents who need evacuation or assistance in flooded neighborhoods and damaged buildings, according to a Saturday social media post from West Metro Fire.

Forty-five members of the Colorado band traveled to the area on Wednesday to perform in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Helene came ashore in Florida’s Big Bend region late Thursday as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 120 mph, then quickly moved through Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.

As cleanup began after the terrible storm that killed at least 52 people, heavy rains brought by Hurricane Helene left many people stranded or homeless.

West Metro Fire said search and rescue operations have been ongoing since the storm made landfall.
