Jagan Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu’s party collects trade fees in connection with alleged land grab

Hyderabad:

Following the demolition of the under-construction YSRCP party office in Guntur district on Saturday and notices issued to two more YSRCP offices in Visakhapatnam for allegedly operating illegally, the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh has alleged that similar violations have been discovered across the state.

YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy called it revenge politics and said the demolition of the almost completed building showed what the regime would look like in the next five years.

On Sunday, Minister of State and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh posted photos of YSRCP offices being constructed at various places in Andhra Pradesh on lease of Rs 1,000 per acre.

“Jagan, is Andhra Pradesh your grandfather Raja Reddy’s property?” said Mr. Lokesh, who is the son of Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Lokesh alleged that Reddy built “palaces” with Rs 500 crore “looted” from the people.

“In these 42 acres worth over Rs 600 crore, acquired in exchange for their desire for land, 4,200 poor people will be able to get house sites. The Rs 500 crore spent on your luxurious palaces will build houses for 25,000 poor people,” Lokesh wrote in his post. X. “What is this palace madness? Is there no end to your lust for money?” he said.

The TDP alleged that Reddy had built “palaces” for himself in nine cities, including Hyderabad and Bengaluru, and was currently building “palaces” for his party offices using public money and without permission from the authorities.

The TDP claimed that 42.24 acres of government land in 26 districts had been allotted to YSRCP offices on a 33-year lease at a nominal cost of Rs 1,000 per acre. “The value of the 42.24 acres is Rs 688 crore while over Rs 500 crore of public money was spent on the construction of these palaces,” the TDP said.

The TDP alleged that no permissions were issued for YSRCP offices, except in Prakasam district. The YSRCP claims that between 2014 and 2019, the TDP government had allotted land in 10 districts to the government on lease for a period ranging from 33 to 99 years at Rs 1,000 per acre.

“If you do this, it will be politics and if we do this, it will be land grabbing,” read a post on YSRCP’s official account on X. “Haven’t you issued a GO and built TDP offices across the state?” – asked the Opposition. He maintained that the land for NTR Bhavan (TDP office) in Hyderabad was also allotted in the same manner.

YSRCP said that if the previous government had taken a similar step, there would have been no TDP office left in the state.

The under-construction YSRCP office building at Seethanagaram in Tadepalli Mandal in Guntur district was demolished by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) authorities on Saturday.

On June 10, APCRDA issued a notice to YSRCP to commence construction on an “illegally occupied” land measuring 870.40 square meters in the irrigation department yard area.

APCRDA reported that the previous government had leased two acres, which had a shipyard and a water tank, to the YSRCP at a lease of Rs 1,000 per acre per annum for 33 years for the party office. It was also alleged that the party had undertaken the construction without seeking permission from the irrigation department and MTMC.

YSRCP has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order from CRDA and MTMC not to take any coercive action against the building’s structure until the hearing is concluded.

Claiming that the Supreme Court had ordered a halt to all demolition activities, the opposition slammed the government for violating the court’s order. The YSRCP plans to approach the court on Monday, seeking criminal proceedings against those who carried out the demolition.

The Town Planning Department of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has issued notices to the YSRCP seeking explanations regarding the “unauthorized construction” of party offices in Yendada and Anakapalli.

It was alleged that the YSRCP continued the construction of G+1 building on two acres of land in Yendada without permission from the authorities. Similarly, according to the government, the construction of the YSRCP office in Anakapalli was allegedly undertaken without permissions.

YSRCP leader and former minister Gudivada Amarnath removed the advertisement pasted in her Yedanda office. He said the land was allocated in 2022 and construction began in March 2023.

He said the government was paid around Rs 13 lakh and Rs 30 lakh as taxes for approving plans for the party offices at Yendada and Anakapalli respectively.
