Chelsea transfer confirmed as player issues statement ahead of move

Chelsea are set to announce the transfer of Renato Veiga after the defender sent a farewell message to Basel.

The 20-year-old is set to become Chelsea’s sixth summer signing after a £12million deal was agreed with Basel for the defender. Veiga is expected to sign a long-term contract that will see him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

Since the arrival of American owner Todd Boehly and his Clearlake consortium, the club has signed youngsters, including Kendry Paez, Estevao Willian, Andrey Santos, Marc Guiu and Angelo.

Veiga will join Tosin Adarabioyo, Willian, Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall among the players signed by Enzo Maresca this summer. There is reportedly no sell-on clause in the deal with Basel for the defender, meaning a future sale would see Chelsea benefit from a 100% fee.

With the medical already scheduled in London, Veiga sent a message on Instagram to the Swiss team. “Dear FCB fans, it’s time to say goodbye. I feel the need to thank you for this past season, where you welcomed me and made me feel immediately like one of yours.

“Last season we didn’t achieve the goals that you would expect a club of Basel’s size to achieve. But I’m sure that with the new team on board and your support, you will bring Basel back to where it belongs. You have gained one more supporter, who is cheering you on for your success. Thank you Basel.”
