MassLive wants your suggestions to be made to Indigenous leaders to celebrate

Native American Heritage Month, also known as Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month, begins on November 1. To celebrate, MassLive is asking readers to nominate people they consider to be leaders in Massachusetts, regardless of their Native background.

We would like nominations from those who are making their mark in fields such as business, art, music, politics, advocacy, activism or education.

Native American Heritage Month began as an effort to create a national day to celebrate Native Americans in 1915. States approved several days on a case-by-case basis, starting with New York.

In 1990, President George HW Bush approved a joint resolution designating November of that year as National Native American Heritage Month. Since 1994, similar proclamations have been issued annually, with name variations.

MassLive regularly recognizes leaders from various communities. You can learn more about our leadership series by checking out our articles on Black Leaders, Hispanic/Latino Leaders, LGBTQ+ Leaders, Asian American and Pacific Islander Leaders, and our past article on 2023 Indigenous Leaders.

Please nominate officers by filling out the form at this link or in the embedded form below, and be sure to include contact information on how we can reach the person.

Thanks for your help!
