Exhibition of antiques and collectibles

• The Armada Historical Society is hosting a “Show Us What You’ve Got” Antiques and Collectibles Show from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Oct. 12 and 13, at the Grange Hall at the Armada Fairgrounds, 74280 Fair Street, Armada. See what people are passionate about collecting, as well as items from the Armada Area Historical Society’s collection. Art Guild meeting

• The Washington Art Guild meets Oct. 7 at the Romeo Community Center, 361 Morton Street, in the North Room. Please use the Morton Street car park and enter the building through the door on the right, which is located on the north-east corner of the building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and socializing. Business meeting at 7:00 p.m. The session is a workshop. Participants work on photos that will later be exhibited at the Rome Graubner Library. Canvases will be shipped free of charge (size approximately 8”x10”). Take your paints and painting supplies with you (watercolor painters: please bring a medium for mounting watercolor paper on canvas or wood, or a medium for preparing the canvas).

Baby shower party

• The Right to Life of Michigan Macomb Educational Resource Center will be collecting items for babies from noon to 3 p.m., Oct. 19, during an open baby shower reception to benefit local pregnancy care centers. Blood drive

• Henry Ford Macomb Hospital will host a blood drive on October 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in conference room 3 on the fourth floor of the hospital’s medical pavilion, located at 16151 19 Mile Road in Clinton Township. Bottle and can drive

• Chapter 855 Women’s Life carries continuous bottles and can travel to drop-off locations in Richmond and Memphis to help those in need in the community. They also offer a collection service for larger donations. For more information, call 586-318-4053.

Cooking chili

• Knights of Columbus Council Fr. Kramer No. 2835 hosts the third annual chili cook-off. Oct. 12, 12-3 p.m., at Cloverleaf Bar and Restaurant, 24443 Gratiot Avenue, Eastpointe. Participation in the event is free – admission to one pot of chili and any additions to the display. It costs $5 to taste. Proceeds go to Knights of Columbus charities. To enter, contact Greg Childs

Autumn Festival

• Jack Frost Auto Museum, 61714 Campground Road, Washington Township, is hosting a fall festival from 6:30-11 p.m., Oct. 5. The event includes a classic car show, 50/50 raffle, live entertainment, hayride, bonfire, Midway Antique Shop, barbecue and brew (Non-alcoholic options available.) Euchre event

• The Sterling Heights Lions Club is hosting a euchre tournament on Oct. 11 at its clubhouse, 12828 Canal Road, Sterling Heights. Food distribution event

•Hope for Hungry Food Pantry through St. Martin Lutheran Church. Peter’s Church in Macomb will distribute food from 6-7 p.m. on October 3 and from 1-2 p.m. on October 17 at 24125 26 Mile Road, Ray Township. This will be a drive-thru event and those receiving food are asked to show their driver’s license or state ID card. You should park in the parking space in the west parking lot and wait to check in. People arriving cannot collect the car on behalf of any family other than their own, unless this has been previously agreed. For more information, visit hopeforthehungrypantry.org.

Fundraising events

• Comedy and Cocktails, an annual benefit benefiting Macomb Community College’s arts and cultural programs, will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Lorenzo Cultural Center and the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, located on the Center Campus in Clinton Township. It begins at the Lorenzo Cultural Center at 6 p.m. with music by the Kroon Trio, delicious hors d’oeuvres, walking dinner stations, a silent auction with mobile bidding and a raffle with prizes. The theme of the event will be a 1950s comedy club. At 8 p.m., guests will move into the Macomb Center and take their reserved seats to see comedians Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood in Asking for Trouble, an improvised, unscripted comedy show. Tickets are $175 each and include seats to the premiere at the Macomb Center. • Butterfly Collective is hosting a “Dueling Pianos” fundraiser from 6-10 p.m., Oct. 18, at Fraternal Order of Police #124, 11304 14 Mile Road, Warren. The event includes live entertainment, a silent auction, raffles, refreshments and guest speakers. Tickets are $65 per person or $100 per couple and can be purchased online at Thebutterflycollective.org. The Butterfly Collective is a nonprofit organization that helps victims of domestic violence in southeast Michigan rebuild their lives.

Garden Club event

• The Shelby Gardeners Club hosts Dr. David Lowenstein at 1 p.m., Oct. 10, at the Shadbush Nature Center, 4101 River Bends Drive, Shelby Township. Lowenstein will give a presentation titled: “Make Your Garden a Paradise for Beneficial Insects” and explains how to nurture and sustain them to keep them coming back.
