A European city that has been described as ‘the perfect weekend away’ can be flown from Liverpool John Lennon Airport for £89. Kaunas, Lithuania’s second largest city, is just under a three-hour flight from Liverpool.

Famous for its charming old town and connecting Vytautas to the Great Bridge, you can wander the streets of the town and visit numerous museums, restaurants, shops and much more. Combining medieval architecture and modern buildings, there are also outdoor spaces to see.


With much to offer, Liverpool John Lennon Airport said the city is “a lesser known destination”. On their website they said: “The perfect weekend getaway, Kaunas combines excellent cuisine, interesting architecture and a variety of cultural experiences. »

What are the best attractions in Kaunas?

There are so many things to see and do in Kaunas. When it comes to the Old Town, tourists can head to Vilniaus Street and its surrounding areas, which are full of cafes, restaurants, galleries, street art and much more.

Main attraction, the old town is also protected by UNESCO. A maze of cobbled streets, Liverpool John Lennon Airport has described it as “a must-visit during your stay in Kaunas”.


Here you can find the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and Paul and the Kaunas Castle. The town hall square – Rotušės aikštė – is a must-see, lined with pastel-colored merchant houses from the 15th and 16th centuries and the spectacular Baroque town hall.

The New Town also offers multiple shops, bars, restaurants, museums and theaters to visit. Laisvės alėja (Liberty Avenue), which connects the New Town with the Old Town, is also a shoppers’ paradise.

One of the city’s most unique tourist attractions is the Devil’s Museum, which consists of thousands of devil sculptures from a private collection. From paintings to masks, sculptures and more, it can add something different to your usual itinerary.


If you want to travel a little further from the city center, Pazaislis Monastery is a popular landmark that attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is the largest monastery in the county and features Italian Baroque style architecture.

Kaunas is a place where you can travel all year round. Liverpool John Lennon Airport has also said Christmas is a popular time to visit the city as it offers a full program of events including Christmas markets, special light installations, festive concerts and much more.
